Olga Finkel Artist - October 2016
Felt Paintings
Olga Finkel - riginally from Ukraine, she now lives and works in Melbourne.
Olga graduated as a fashion designer in Ukraine, and had a successful career as a ladies’ fashion and headwear designer.
Olga has since found the love of her life – felt.
Olga saw a felt scarf worn by a friend. It was beautiful – the texture,
warmth and blended colours were mesmerising…she wished for a scarf like
that, more so, to learn how to create it. Experience as a fashion
designer was a good start for exploring this great craft. Olga started to
combine coarse wool, fine merino wool and luxurious silk, and learned many
different felting techniques, learning how to dye wool, experimenting
with colours to achieve perfect shades.
All of that has lead Olga to develop her own unique way of felting.
Using wool and silk like other artists use paint, Olga makes felted
pictures, transforming this ancient form of craft to a contemporary art
level. Compelled by a constant refinement of her style, Olga continues
exploring the endless potential of wool.

Showcase Paintings & Sculptures
Karen Hopkins
Karen Hopkins
Born in England, Karen has spent many years living in Asia, South Africa and the last 12 years in Australia. Over the past 17 years Karen has been exhibiting as a professional artist, her artwork has been collected by numerous corporate and private collectors, both nationally and internationally. Karen’s recent abstract expressionist paintings and quirky sculptural works draw on themes inspired by nature, emotions, virtues and the experiences and challanges of life.
For Karen the act of creativity is meditative, she finds herself in a timeless void, immersed in the expressiveness of time and space, colour, texture and form.
Since living in Australia Karen has been inspired by the beauty of the landscape, from the unique energy, colour, vastness and sense of space in the Australian outback, to the stunning beaches and crystal waters, the oceans, rivers, gorges, the patterns and marks we make upon the earth.
Using colour, texture, form and rhythm Karen takes the viewer on a journey exploring the deeper levels that connect us all.
